Imagine
           John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possessions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Transcendentalism is not against faith in God or belief in a higher power. On the contrary, most transcendentalists were very spiritual people. Ralph Waldo Emerson said in his essay Nature that "the world proceeds from the same spirit as the body of man. It is a remoter and inferior incarnation of God" He viewed humanity as being inferior to God but still connected to Him in a spiritual way. He also believed that people were intrinsically  good and did not need organized religion to guide them. Transcendentals had faith that humans could choose to act morally and justly without the necessity of religion as an incentive.
